Lynchburg, VA — Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) has announced a 40% increase in Lynchburg City Schools graduating seniors attending CVCC, a 15% increase in 2025 high school graduates overall, and a 15% increase in new students choosing CVCC this fall.
This semester, more than 3,200 students are enrolled in CVCC’s degree programs, with an additional 400 participating in workforce certificate and credentialing programs. The school attributes this growth to the college’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for learners of all ages and backgrounds. In addition, CVCC’s application-to-enrollment yield has climbed to 56% – a 20% jump over Fall 2024 and well above both statewide and national community college averages.
“We are thrilled to see more students choosing CVCC as their starting point,” said Dr. John Capps, CVCC president. “Our enrollment growth is a direct result of the dedication of our faculty and staff, who work tirelessly to provide a supportive, accessible, and student-centered learning environment.”
CVCC also cited it values its outreach efforts through long-standing partnerships with area schools and businesses, and enhanced student support services, all of which they indicate have contributed to increased enrollment. In addition, the college states the initiatives such as no-cost dual enrollment for high school students taught by qualified high school teachers, workforce credentialing, and expanded transfer pathways continue to attract new students looking to further their education and career goals.
“This growth tells us that students recognize the value of a CVCC education,” said Dr. Michael Farris, dean of student services. “Whether they are seeking to transfer to a four-year university, gain skills for the workforce, or explore new career opportunities, CVCC is here to help them succeed.”
Central Virginia Community College affirms its unwavering commitment to its mission of delivering accessible and affordable educational opportunities that not only strengthen the community but also equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for future success.
