Gas prices in the City of Lynchburg rose 28 cents per gallon from $2.71 on March 9 to $2.99 as of Monday, March 16 at 2:45 p.m., according to GasBuddy.
The increase reflects a broader upward movement in fuel prices across Virginia as crude oil markets remain volatile. Global oil prices have continued to respond to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where instability involving Iran has raised concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies and shipping routes. While many factors influence local gasoline prices, fluctuations in international oil markets often translate to higher pump prices in the United States within days.
Across Virginia, most markets experienced noticeable increases over the past week.
In Northern Virginia, Alexandria climbed to $3.49 per gallon, while Charlottesville reached $3.39. Prices in Richmond rose to $3.29, while Danville reported an average of $3.09. Both Roanoke and Virginia Beach came in at $2.99, aligning closely with Lynchburg’s current average.
Within the Greater Lynchburg region, prices varied modestly by locality:
Amherst: $3.29
Bedford: $3.28
Appomattox: $3.19
Rustburg: $3.17
Even with the week-to-week jump, Lynchburg’s fuel prices remain competitive with several larger Virginia markets and continue to sit below many averages seen in Northern Virginia and parts of Central Virginia.
GasBuddy’s pricing is based on real-time, user-reported data from individual stations, providing a snapshot of current market conditions rather than a full-day regional average.
