Health Inspections: Fewer Visits, But Violations Persist

Health inspectors had a relatively light week across Central Virginia from June 17 through June 23, conducting routine, follow-up, and pre-opening inspections at a smaller-than-usual number of food establishments.

Only two businesses—Chick-fil-A on Timberlake Road and Oasis Caribbean on Oakley Avenue—earned a perfect score with zero violations. Most of the remaining establishments documented one to five violations, with a select few reporting higher numbers.

The highest number of violations observed during a routine inspection was at First XI Coffee in Bedford, which was cited for seven infractions, including issues with cold food storage temperatures, the absence of a certified food protection manager, and no formal procedure for cleaning up after vomit or diarrhea events. Several of the violations involved key food safety fundamentals that require correction within a specified timeframe.

Two Establishments had Zero Violations

On the top side of violations was First X1 with 7.
