Lynchburg Air Travel Gains Momentum

United’s new flights launched as American Airlines earns national service recognition at LYH

Air travel in Greater Lynchburg is showing encouraging signs of momentum, highlighted by recent new service and national recognition for performance at Lynchburg Regional Airport.

United Airlines launched last week new service connecting Lynchburg to both Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles, giving local travelers expanded access to two major hub airports and a broader network of domestic and international destinations. The additions mark a meaningful step forward for a regional airport where reliable connectivity is essential for both business and leisure travel.

At the same time, American Airlines—a long-standing partner at LYH—earned its Customer Cup award for fourth quarter 2025. The recognition is based on operational performance, safety, and overall customer experience, including metrics such as departure reliability, baggage handling, and customer feedback.

The Lynchburg station has now received the award four times, reflecting a sustained level of performance by local airline staff (below).

American Airlines has provided direct service from Lynchburg to Charlotte Douglas International Airport for more than a decade, offering a key connection point for travelers across Central Virginia.

Taken together, the developments point to a broader trend: for a market Lynchburg’s size, air service is not only holding steady—but showing signs of strengthening, with improved access through key national hubs.
