Bedford County Social Services is staffing a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Information Hotline the week of Nov. 3-7.
The hotline was created to help residents navigate changes and/or impacts to their SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown.
DSS staff will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. You can call the SNAP Information Hotline at 540-586-7750.
The new entrance and customer service area for Bedford County’s Community Development department will open to the public on Monday, Nov. 3.
Visitors will find the new entrance on the back side of the Bedford County Administration Building (122 East Main St., Bedford). Inside, customers will be assisted by staff at three service windows.
The former entrance, located inside the building on the ground floor, will be accessed by staff only.

Voters will head to the polls for Election Day on Tuesday, November 4.
Here are a few reminders:
- Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
 - Use our online map to confirm your polling place and view sample ballots: www.bedfordcountyva.gov/votingmap.
 - Remember to bring a form of ID to the polls, such as a driver’s license or DMV-issued ID card.

Some Bedford County offices and services will be impacted by holiday closures in November.
- Tuesday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day): Bedford County government offices will be closed. The Waste Management Facility, gated waste convenience centers, and the Bedford Area Welcome Center will be open.
 - Nov. 26-28 (Thanksgiving): Bedford County government offices will close at 12 p.m. on Nov. 26 and remain closed on Nov. 27 and 28. The Waste Management Facility, gated waste convenience centers, and the Bedford Area Welcome Center will be closed on Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Day) only.
 
Fall brush collection ends on Nov. 15.
Residential yard waste (limbs, branches, leaves) are being accepted Bedford County's eight full-service waste collection centers.

Local veterans are invited to a special Veterans Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 8:30 a.m.
This free event is organized by Bedford County Parks & Recreation at the Bedford Moose Lodge (2986 W Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Bedford). Veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Late registration for Parks & Recreation basketball ends November 7.
You can sign up online during the first week of November with a late fee of $10. Use the new RecTrac portal: www.bedfordcountyva.gov/register.
Basketball is open to ages 5-18.
The Festival of Trees at the Bedford Area Welcome Center begins on Nov. 24.
