WINTERGREEN, VIRGINIA – June 24, 2025 – Pacific Group Resorts announced the appointment of Zach Marlowe as the new General Manager of Wintergreen Resort, effective July 1, 2025. A 20-year veteran of the mountain resort industry, Marlowe brings deep operational expertise to one of the Mid Atlantic’s premier four-season destinations.
“It starts up here,” said Marlowe, echoing Wintergreen’s brand ethos. “This is where adventure begins— on the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’m excited to keep moving Wintergreen forward as a true four-season destination. Whether you want to do everything or nothing at all, the mountain should feel like your own backyard.”
Marlowe got his start skiing at Ski Liberty in Pennsylvania and joined the National Ski Patrol in high school through a Boy Scouts Explorer Post. After college, he stepped into the ski industry full-time and steadily advanced through roles in nearly every department—from lifts and snowmaking to guest services and risk management. Marlowe joined Wintergreen in 2015 and has served as Wintergreen’s Director of Operations since 2018 where he has been responsible for more than 20 departments, helping to shape the resort’s long-term growth.
Marlowe explained, “My vision is for Wintergreen to be the kind of place where families and friends come together and have an amazing time. We’ll keep dialing in the details that make each visit feel easy and special which we will do largely by investing in our team—developing leaders, aligning departments, and creating a culture where people feel empowered and proud of their work.”
Mark Fischer, President and CEO of Pacific Group Resorts, the parent company of Wintergreen, noted, “Zach brings a contagious passion and a forward-thinking mindset that fits perfectly with Wintergreen’s trajectory. His deep operational knowledge, approachable style, and commitment to people make him the ideal leader for this next chapter.”
Marlowe succeeds Jay Gamble, who is retiring after four years at the helm of Wintergreen and forty-four years in the ski industry. As a seasoned industry executive, Gamble helped stabilize Wintergreen after the pandemic and led the resort through a period of growth and transformation by strengthening operations, guiding strategic investments, and enhancing both guest and member experiences.
“Jay’s steady hand and thoughtful leadership propelled Wintergreen forward at a pivotal time,” added Fischer. “He helped evolve the operational culture of the resort by focusing on driving the business from a sales perspective at the same time he enhanced the mindset of delivery of service to our guests through a mantra of, ‘Be Helpful and Friendly.’ Even though two of the four years he was at the resort were low snow years, he leaves the resort on strong footing, having built a sustainable foundation for Zach and the entire team to build upon. We’re grateful for his impact and wish him the very best in retirement in the new home he and his wife just built at Wintergreen.”
