Bedford County to Break Ground on Sheriff’s Office, 911 Center Expansion

BEDFORD, Va. — Bedford County will break ground Sept. 9 on a major expansion of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and 911 Communications Center, a project designed to provide additional space for public safety operations as the county continues to grow.

The project will add approximately 15,000 square feet to the existing facility at 1345 Falling Creek Road. Plans include a new Emergency Operations Center and an elevator to improve ADA accessibility.

The current building, which houses both the Sheriff’s Office and Bedford County’s 911 Center, was constructed in 1998. County officials say population growth and the addition of staff and services over the years have left both operations needing more space.

Price Buildings Inc. was selected for the project in March 2025, with design work completed this spring. Construction is expected to continue through January 2028.

The project is being funded through Bedford County’s capital improvement program, which is used to plan and fund major long-term infrastructure and facility needs.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Sheriff’s Office.
