E.C. Glass, LCA Win as Guanzon and Stephens Take Medalist Honors

Nikko Guanzon fires a 1-under 35 as E.C. Glass wins at Ivy Hill, while Matthew Stephens leads LCA to victory at London Downs.

E.C. Glass and Liberty Christian picked up victories Wednesday as Greater Lynchburg high school golf teams competed in a pair of four-team matches at Ivy Hill Golf Club and London Downs Golf Club. Familiar names Nikko Guanzon of E.C. Glass and Matthew Stephens of LCA delivered Wednesday, each earning medalist honors while leading their teams to victory.

At Ivy Hill, E.C. Glass posted a four-player score of 153 to finish four shots ahead of host Jefferson Forest. Brookville finished third at 174, while Heritage was fourth at 214.

Nikko Guanzon earned medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 on the par-36 layout. Jefferson Forest's Connor Lamanna finished one shot back with an even-par 36, while E.C. Glass' Bax Wolanski was third with a 38.

The Hilltoppers also received 40s from Preston Laughon, John Sorenson and Addie Ruhl.

Jefferson Forest was led by Lamanna, Angela Liu with a 39 and Luke Vaughn with a 40.

At London Downs, Liberty Christian posted a 157 to take the four-team match, followed by Liberty-Bedford at 178, Amherst County at 182 and Rustburg at 187.

Matthew Stephens led the Bulldogs and earned medalist honors with a 37, while teammate Logan Walker was one shot back with a 38. Ripkin Colling added a 40 and Chance Dodd a 42 to complete LCA's four counting scores.

The aerated greens at London Downs made for challenging putting conditions Wednesday.

Amherst County was led by Caitlyn Baxter with a 41, while Jayce Macaioni and C.J. Jones each shot 43 to lead Liberty-Bedford and Rustburg, respectively.
