Greater Lynchburg Food Inspections: Fiesta Tapatia Records 16 Violations

Fiesta Tapatia records 16 violations during the week, while 10 of 19 establishments complete routine inspections without a violation.

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Central Virginia Health District conducted food inspections across Greater Lynchburg during the Sept. 8-11 reporting period, including 19 routine inspections that resulted in 36 violations.

Fiesta Tapatia in Forest recorded the week's highest routine inspection total with 16 violations, while no other establishment recorded more than four. Ten of the 19 establishments inspected routinely during the week recorded no violations.

Fiesta Tapatia recorded the week's highest total with 16 violations during its Sept. 8 routine inspection.

Inspectors cited improper handwashing, mold on salsa and hot dogs, raw shredded beef and raw chicken stored above cooked pork, and a dishmachine that tested at 0 ppm sanitizer. Employees were directed to use the three-compartment sink for sanitizing dishes until the machine was repaired.

The inspection also found queso reheating at 87°F after about an hour. It was moved to the stovetop for reheating and later discarded. The restaurant's walk-in cooler was holding at 56°F, with salsa at 54°F, refried beans at 55°F and milk and queso at 56°F. TCS foods held longer than four hours were discarded, while foods prepared that morning were moved to other refrigeration.

Other violations involved missing date marks, an unapproved can of insect spray, excessive sanitizer concentration, deteriorated shelving and equipment, plumbing and backflow issues, physical-facility repairs and missing protective covers on kitchen lighting. Several violations were corrected during the inspection.

Fiesta Tapatia's 16 violations stood well above the rest of the week's routine inspections. No other establishment recorded more than four violations, with All American in Vinton, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Forest and Hardee's of Madison Heights each recording four.

New Doc's Kitchen in Lynchburg had three violations and Otter River Elementary School in Goode had two. Three establishments recorded one violation each, while 10 of the week's 19 routine inspections were completed without a violation.
