Seventeen open division players within five shots as Saturday sets up for a tight race at Boonsboro

Open Division
All-MAAC golfer Cabell Faulkner holds a one-shot lead after firing a 3-under 68 on Friday at Boonsboro Country Club.

Close behind is Boonsboro member Peter Ramsey, who turned in one of the most aggressive rounds of the day with six birdies. Faulkner and Ramsey will be paired with Zach Wehrman in Saturday’s featured group, teeing off at 2:30 p.m.

Only a handful of players broke par in Round One. Joining Faulkner and Ramsey were:

  • William & Mary rising senior Luke Walmet (-1)
  • Forest native and Timberlake Christian senior Rusty Hooks (-1)
  • Former Randolph-Macon standout Zach Wehrman (-1)

The leaderboard remains tightly packed, with 17 golfers within five shots of the lead.

Defending champion and Liberty University golfer Luke Libbey sits just off the pace at 1-over 72. Libbey recorded six birdies but was undone by double bogeys on Nos. 2 and 4, along with three additional bogeys. He enters the weekend fresh off helping Liberty claim the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship title.

Senior Division
Alexandria, Virginia’s Pete Barbera takes a three-shot lead into Saturday after an impressive opening round.

UVA Golf Coach Bowen Sargent and Scott Richardson are tied at even par, while Boonsboro members John Jordan (73) and Rodney Laughon (75) sit five and seven shots back, respectively.

Super Senior Division
Jeffrey Flax leads by one shot after posting an even-par 71.

Tied just behind him are:

  • Jack Allara
  • Jeff Crosier
  • Former champion Steve Liebler

Another former champion, Bert Allen, remains firmly in contention at 2-over 73—despite a costly double bogey on the 18th hole.
