Several local markets briefly approached $5 per gallon Monday before prices eased later in the day, reinforcing the importance of checking GasBuddy before filling up.
Gas prices fluctuated sharply across Greater Lynchburg on Monday, with several local markets briefly nearing the $5-per-gallon mark before easing closer to last week’s levels later in the day.
A mid-afternoon snapshot taken at 3:30 p.m. showed Amherst, Appomattox and Rustburg at $4.99 per gallon for regular unleaded, while Bedford reached $4.93 and the City of Lynchburg checked in at $4.47.
However, prices checked again around 5:30 p.m. had already declined noticeably at several stations, highlighting how quickly fuel prices can shift throughout the day and from station to station.
Across Virginia, Alexandria posted the highest price among the markets tracked at $5.14 per gallon, while Charlottesville reached $4.94. Richmond ($4.57), Roanoke ($4.47), Danville ($4.75) and Virginia Beach ($4.49) also remained elevated during the afternoon snapshot.
The rapid swings serve as another reminder for drivers to check apps such as GasBuddy immediately before filling up, as nearby stations can vary significantly within just a few hours.
Lowest prices were recorded at 3:30 p.m. on May 18 and do not include membership-based retailers such as Sam’s Club. Source: GasBuddy.
