Guanzon fires two under 34 as E.C. Glass wins at Hat Creek

Guanzon goes bogey-free as E.C. Glass wins by 23

LYNCHBURG, Va. — E.C. Glass continued its strong start to the high school golf season Wednesday, winning a four-team, nine-hole match at Hat Creek Golf Course behind a bogey-free 2-under 34 from Nikko Guanzon.

Guanzon earned medalist honors and led the Hilltoppers to a 148 team score, 23 shots ahead of Brookville at 171. Liberty-Bedford finished at 176, while Rustburg shot 185.

Glass also received a 36 from Preston Laughon and three rounds of 39 from Bax Wolanski, Addie Ruhl and Land McCall. With four scores counting toward the team total, Guanzon's 34, Laughon's 36 and two of the 39s produced the winning 148.

Brookville was led by a 40 from Jackson and a 41 from J.P. Peterson. Liberty's low round came from Jayce with a 42, while Rustburg was led by C.J. Jones' 36.

Guanzon's performance adds another strong round to his season. He previously shot a 69 to earn medalist honors and lead E.C. Glass to a 295 team victory in the Aug. 10 Seminole District match at Ivy Hill.

Baxter leads Amherst at London Downs

At London Downs Golf Club, Amherst County was among four teams competing Wednesday along with Heritage, Jefferson Forest and Liberty Christian Academy.

Amherst was led by Caitlyn Baxter with a 40 over nine holes. Hunter Johnson followed with a 47, Hunter Doss shot 49 and Willie Hurley finished with a 50. Griffin Seay added a 51 and Paxton Cash shot 53.

Complete team and individual results from the London Downs match were not available Monday evening.

With school now in session, Greater Lynchburg teams move into weekly quad matches.

This week four teams tee off today Tuesday September 1st at London Downs featuring Brookville, Heritage, Jefferson Forest and Liberty. On Wednesday Amherst, E.C. Glass, Liberty Christian Academy, and Rustburg tackle Winton Farm. LCA and Glass also squeeze in another team for an event Tuesday at Halifax Country Club.
