Community input will be considered as Lynchburg City Schools and police review the agreement governing officers in middle and high schools.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg City Schools is seeking community feedback on its school resource officer program as the division and Lynchburg Police Department prepare to update their agreement governing the program.
Each LCS middle and high school has a school resource officer, a Lynchburg Police Department officer assigned to work full time in the school.
School resource officers help develop crisis plans, provide safety and security services and mentor students.
LCS and the police department review the program's Memorandum of Understanding every two years. The agreement outlines the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the school division, police department and officers participating in the program.
As part of the current review, LCS is asking residents to provide feedback before the 2026 agreement is finalized.
Community members can complete an online survey through Oct. 30 to provide feedback. The current Memorandum of Understanding is also available on the LCS website.
