(September 16, 2025)— The Lynchburg Humane Society and Lynchburg Fire Department are announcing the launch of a new partnership. LHS and LFD are collaborating on a fundraising campaign for a 2025 ornament, with half of the proceeds benefiting the Lynchburg Fire Department Museum and the other half benefiting the lost and homeless pets at LHS.
The hand-designed and crafted 2025 ornament features a Dalmatian, Smoky, wearing a fire hat and carrying a hose to celebrate the history of the working dog in fire departments. On one side of the dog’s blanket is the LFD logo, and on the other is the LHS logo.

“The Lynchburg Humane Society is honored to collaborate with the Lynchburg Fire Department on this meaningful holiday keepsake. This special ornament symbolizes our shared commitment to protecting lives — whether they walk on two legs or four. It’s a beautiful way for the community to celebrate the season while supporting the vital work our organizations do,” said Jill Mollohan, LHS’s Executive Director.
“The LFD is incredibly excited to partner with the Lynchburg Humane Society on the creation of this year’s Christmas ornament,” said Lynchburg Fire Department’s Fire Chief Gregory Wormser. “We think Smoky truly captures the spirit of both organizations and is a perfect symbol of all that they mean to this community. And what a great way to support two worthy causes all at once!”
These limited-edition ornaments will arrive in late September but are available for preorder now at www.lynchburghumane.org/ornament.
