Prices Fall From Last Week’s Spike, Though Much of Greater Lynchburg Remains Near or Above $5 Per Gallon
Gas prices across Greater Lynchburg showed modest improvement heading into Memorial Day week, though many local communities continue to face elevated fuel costs compared to normal seasonal levels.
According to a Monday afternoon snapshot from GasBuddy, the City of Lynchburg posted the region’s lowest average regular gasoline price at $4.03 per gallon — down sharply from $4.47 just one week earlier. Bedford averaged $4.89, while Amherst and Rustburg both stood at $4.99. Appomattox recorded the area’s highest local average at $5.08 per gallon.
Across Virginia, Alexandria remained the state’s most expensive market at $5.14 per gallon, followed by Charlottesville at $4.99. Richmond averaged $4.57, Roanoke came in at $4.45, and Virginia Beach posted $4.65.
The week-to-week decline in Lynchburg suggests some stabilization after the dramatic run-up seen earlier this month, though prices throughout Central Virginia remain volatile and continue fluctuating throughout the day at many stations.
As always, drivers are encouraged to check GasBuddy immediately before filling up, as station prices can shift quickly and membership-based retailers may offer significantly lower prices than area averages.
