(Lynchburg, VA and Bedford County, VA)—Following the successful hosting of the 2024 event, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has once again selected the City of Lynchburg and Bedford County to host one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions: the 2028 PDGA World Championships. In addition, the region has been awarded the 2028 PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships, with dates for both competitions to be finalized.

Both championships will be held at Bedford County’s New London Tech Disc Golf Course and Ivy Hill Golf Club in Forest. Designed by world champion disc golfer Paul McBeth, New London Tech Disc Golf Course is internationally recognized and ranks #15 in the world and #1 in Virginia on the widely used UDisc app.
“Being selected once again to host the PDGA World Championships is a tremendous honor for Bedford County,” said Nicole Johnson, Director of Tourism for Bedford County. “Events of this caliber allow us to showcase not only our exceptional disc golf courses, but also the memorable experiences our community offers, including local businesses, restaurants, accommodations, cultural attractions and the scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.”

The return of these premier events further cements the region’s reputation as a leading disc golf destination while building on the momentum of the 2024 PDGA Professional World Championships, which drew more than 12,500 unique spectators over the event weekend. That event generated an estimated $4.5 million in direct economic impact for the region, including more than 8,400 room nights sold at local hotels.
“After the success of hosting the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships, we are thrilled to once again welcome the world back to the City of Lynchburg and Bedford region for the 2028 Pro Worlds, now alongside the 2028 PDGA Masters World Championships. Hosting more than 1,100 Masters competitors in addition to the sport’s top professionals is a tremendous honor and a powerful testament to our region’s championship-level courses, passionate disc golf community, and proven ability to deliver world-class events,” said Marjette Upshur, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the City of Lynchburg. “These two major events are expected to bring a combined estimated economic impact of $11.4 million in direct revenue to the Lynchburg region. We are proud to continue our partnership with the PDGA, Ledgestone, and our local organizers as Lynchburg and Bedford continue to emerge as two of the most dynamic and exciting disc golf destinations in the world.”

The PDGA World Championships are expected to draw approximately 300 elite athletes, while the PDGA Masters World Championships will welcome an estimated 1,100 competitors from around the globe.
This announcement highlights the region’s strong and continuing partnership with Ledgestone Group, organizers of the PDGA World Championships.

“We are thrilled to return to the Lynchburg and Bedford communities for two PDGA Majors in 2028. This region has heavily invested in disc golf over the past several years and their dedication is what keeps bringing us back,” said Tournament Director Nate Heinhold. “The success of the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships and the 2025 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship has helped build a tremendous foundation for success, and we can't wait to bring two world class PDGA Majors to the region!”

Looking ahead, the region’s disc golf event calendar continues to grow, with the City of Lynchburg and Bedford County set to host the PDGA Champions Cup on April 9–12, 2026, followed by the Disc Golf Pro Tour Presented by Powerball® on October 15–18, 2026.
