Lynchburg lowest regular PPG dropped to $3.23 per gallon and Amherst slipped below $4, even as major Virginia markets posted an average increase of nearly 14% from last week.
Gas prices across Greater Lynchburg continued their downward trend over the past week, with the City of Lynchburg posting another decline and every local market except Amherst averaging less than $4 per gallon for regular gasoline.
According to a Monday noon snapshot from GasBuddy, the City of Lynchburg averaged $3.23 per gallon, down from $3.34 one week ago. Bedford recorded the region's lowest average at $3.66, followed by Rustburg at $3.77, Appomattox at $3.86, and Amherst at $3.99.
The latest figures represent a welcome stabilization after the sharp swings experienced throughout May, when fuel prices surged above $5 per gallon in some Virginia markets before retreating heading into June.
Compared to last week, Amherst posted the largest local decline, falling 30 cents from $4.29 to $3.99. Bedford dropped 29 cents, while Appomattox fell 17 cents and Rustburg declined 50 cents. Lynchburg's average slipped another 11 cents.
Statewide markets listed below, prices varied considerably. Alexandria recorded the highest average among the markets tracked at $5.14 per gallon, while Danville posted the lowest at $3.89. Richmond averaged $4.09, Virginia Beach $4.08, Charlottesville $4.29, and Roanoke $4.29.
While prices have moderated significantly from their mid-May highs, motorists should continue to monitor local stations, as prices can fluctuate throughout the day and membership-based retailers often offer fuel well below market averages.
