Public Hearing Scheduled on Proposed Transfer of Former Centra Hospice House

BEDFORD, Va. — The Bedford County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday, July 28, on a proposal to convey the former Centra Hospice House property to Good Samaritan Hospice, Inc., a move that could restore hospice services at the facility.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. during the Board's regular meeting in the third-floor meeting room of the Bedford County Administration Building, 122 E. Main St.

Bedford County has owned the 1.5-acre property at 1025 Turning Point Road since 1832. Centra operated hospice services there from 2016 until closing the facility in April 2026.

Following the closure, county officials began discussions with Good Samaritan Hospice, Inc. about acquiring the property. If the Board of Supervisors approves the conveyance, the nonprofit plans to reopen the facility and provide hospice care, palliative care and other related services.

Residents wishing to comment on the proposed property transfer may do so during the public hearing.
