Public Hearing Set for U.S. 501/221 Intersection Improvement Project
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg residents will have an opportunity Thursday, Aug. 20, to review plans and provide feedback on proposed improvements to the busy intersection of U.S. 501 and U.S. 221.
The city will hold a design public hearing for the U.S. 501/221 Split Pair Intersection Improvement Project from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Heritage Baptist Church gymnasium, 219 Breezewood Drive.
The hearing will be conducted as an open house, allowing residents to stop by at any time during the two-hour period to review project plans, ask questions and provide comments.
The project is designed to improve safety, increase intersection capacity and reduce traffic delays along U.S. 501, also known as the Lynchburg Expressway, and U.S. 221, or Lakeside Drive.
Public comments gathered during the hearing will become part of the project record and will be considered as plans move toward final design and construction. Both written and oral comments will be accepted at the meeting.
Residents who want to submit comments after the hearing have until Thursday, Sept. 3. Comments may be mailed to the City of Lynchburg, Attn: 501/221 Split Pair Project, 900 Church St., Second Floor-Engineering, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
Additional project materials, including preliminary plans, proposed property impacts, relocation assistance policies and the anticipated construction schedule, will be available for public review at Lynchburg City Hall from Aug. 21 through Sept. 3.
Materials can be reviewed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents are asked to call 434-455-3950 in advance to schedule a review and ensure city staff are available to answer questions.
More information about the project is available on the 501/221 Split Pair project website.
