Squared Biscuit Co., the newest Launch LYH grant-winning restaurant, has just opened its doors on 5th Street—and if my recent visit with my family is any indication, it is destined to become one of the city’s hottest breakfast spots.

From the moment we walked in, we could tell this place was special. The interior is cozy and quaint, with just enough charm to make you feel right at home while still buzzing with the energy of a brand-new restaurant. The smell of freshly baked biscuits hits you first—a warm, buttery welcome that makes waiting for a table almost enjoyable. And yes, you will probably wait. The place was packed on our visit, and for good reason.

Once we sat down, the hard part was deciding what to order. The menu is a biscuit lover’s dream, featuring both classic and inventive creations.

My dad went for the Smashed Sausage—a hearty stack of ground pork smashed with a fried egg, melty cheese, and a side of maple syrup for dipping or drizzling.

My sister chose a more minimalist route, ordering a plain biscuit with apple butter. It might sound simple, but the magic of a from-scratch biscuit speaks for itself—flaky layers, tender crumb, and just the right hint of salt to balance the sweet apple spread.

I couldn’t resist the pimento cheese and Hill City hot honey fried chicken biscuit. The crispy, juicy chicken, spicy-sweet hot honey, and a creamy, tangy pimento cheese was all nestled inside that warm, buttery biscuit. It was one of those meals you slow down to savor, even though every instinct tells you to devour it.

We also shared a side of hashbrowns, which deserve their own round of applause—crispy, golden edges with a tender center, perfectly seasoned and not greasy in the slightest.

If I had room, I would have tried more. The menu also tempts with options like the Nashville Hot Honey chicken biscuit, chipotle onion bacon jam biscuit, and even a croque madame-inspired creation.

One of the best things about Squared Biscuit Co. is how it fills a gap in the downtown dining scene. There are plenty of great lunch and dinner spots but having a breakfast place that offers something fresh and unique is a treat for locals and visitors alike.
If you’re in Lynchburg and in the mood for a breakfast that goes beyond the ordinary, this is your spot.
