The crash occurred after the driver experienced a medical episode.
Late last week Lynchburg fire crews cleared the scene of a midday crash on Old Forest Road after a woman drove a vehicle nearly completely through a vacant commercial building.
The incident occurred just after 12 p.m. at the former Blue Ridge Dry Cleaners location in front of Walmart. According to officials, the driver appeared to suffer a medical emergency, lost control of her vehicle, traveled up an embankment, and crashed through the structure from the rear of the building to the front.
The driver was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for evaluation. No one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
The Lynchburg Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team responded to stabilize the damaged structure and remove an exterior railing to allow the vehicle to be safely extracted from the building.
