After 27 years in banking, including leadership of Truist's Lynchburg market, Lamanna takes on a new role overseeing commercial banking in Lynchburg and Danville.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Steve Lamanna, a longtime banking executive who served as Lynchburg market president for Truist following the merger of BB&T and SunTrust, has joined Atlantic Union Bank as market president for Lynchburg and Danville.
The move brings Lamanna's 27 years of banking experience and extensive knowledge of the Central and Southside Virginia business communities to Atlantic Union, where he will oversee commercial banking efforts across both markets.
Lamanna spent much of his career with BB&T and its successor, Truist, serving as Lynchburg market president following the banks' 2019 merger. His departure marks a significant career change for an executive with longstanding ties to the region's banking and business communities.
In his new position, Lamanna will be based in Atlantic Union's Lynchburg office, working with commercial clients on lending, financial strategies and business growth.
"Steve brings deep banking experience and a clear understanding of the Danville and Lynchburg markets," said Pete Humes, group head of Virginia commercial banking. "His leadership will strengthen our wholesale banking presence and help businesses across the region achieve their goals."
A career rooted in Virginia
A native of Amherst, Lamanna began his banking career in Northern Virginia before returning to the Lynchburg area in 2003.
His career has included retail banking, management and commercial banking, where he developed relationships with business owners and leadership teams throughout the region.
Lamanna attended the University of Mary Washington and lives in Forest with his wife and two children.
His experience includes guiding commercial banking relationships during a period of significant change in the industry, including the combination of BB&T and SunTrust that created Truist.
The 2019 merger combined two of Lynchburg's largest banking institutions. Federal Reserve records show that BB&T and SunTrust together held approximately $1.3 billion in deposits in the Lynchburg banking market before the merger, representing nearly 30% of the market.
Building relationships in two markets
At Atlantic Union, Lamanna will focus on strengthening existing commercial relationships and developing new business throughout Lynchburg and Danville.
His responsibilities include working with businesses on financing, deposits, treasury management and other banking services.
"My priority is to understand each client's business and align the right financial strategies with their long-term objectives," Lamanna said. "By working closely with our teams, I look forward to deepening relationships across Danville and Lynchburg and helping businesses move forward with confidence."
The appointment places an experienced local banking executive in a leadership role at another major Virginia-based financial institution.
Headquartered in Richmond, Atlantic Union Bank operates branches throughout Virginia, Maryland and portions of North Carolina.
For Lamanna, the move represents a new chapter in a banking career that has largely been spent serving Virginia businesses and communities.
