Amherst County's Caitlyn Baxter fires a 6-under 66 to win the regional championship, while E.C. Glass's Preston Laughon and Nikko Guanzon join her in advancing to the Class 4 state tournament at Cutalong at Tribute Resort.
WINCHESTER, Va. — Caitlyn Baxter's remarkable postseason run continued Tuesday.
The Amherst County golfer fired a 6-under-par 66 at Winchester Country Club to capture the Region 4D individual championship, following the course-record 63 she shot at last week's Region 4D South sub-regional.
Baxter has now played her two postseason rounds in a combined 14-under par, winning both the sub-regional and regional individual titles.
Baxter's Class 4 state berth also determines her postseason path. Because she qualified for the Class 4 championship as an individual rather than as part of a qualifying team, she must choose between competing in the Class 4 state tournament or pursuing the Girls Open postseason. Baxter will compete in the Class 4 championship.
E.C. Glass's Preston Laughon finished second with a 3-under 69, while teammate Nikko Guanzon shot even-par 72. All three Greater Lynchburg golfers advanced to the VHSL Class 4 State Championship.
