Half-day Lynchburg workshop will examine housing development, affordability, zoning and regulatory barriers across Central Virginia.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Central Virginia Planning District Commission will host a regional housing policy workshop Oct. 28 in Lynchburg focused on housing development, affordability and supply across Central Virginia.
The Central Virginia Regional Housing Policy Workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 300 Lucado Place and is open to the public.
The workshop will bring together municipal officials, planners, commissioners, zoning officials and others to examine policies and practices affecting housing development across the region.
Topics will include:
- Recently enacted Virginia housing legislation
- Housing development and market challenges facing local communities
- Regulatory and policy barriers to housing development
- Small-scale housing development
- Local strategies and action planning
“We are excited to bring another housing education opportunity to our region that will help municipal officials, planning and zoning professionals, and other local leaders better understand the policies and practices that can support more housing options in our communities,” said Jefrado Granger, community development planner at CVPDC.
Sessions will include discussion and collaborative problem-solving, with participants developing strategies that can be applied in their communities.

- Aaron Lubeck, designer and builder with the Incremental Development Alliance.
- Sheila Herlihy Hennessee, director of Faith Organizing at the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy.
- Lyle Solla-Yates, planner and educator who serves on the Charlottesville Planning Commission and works and teaches on zoning and urban planning at the University of Virginia School of Architecture.

The workshop is presented by CVPDC in partnership with the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and Incremental Development Alliance. Virginia Housing is the premier sponsor.
