More than 4,000 runners, walkers and volunteers are expected for the 38th annual 5K benefiting HumanKind; early registration is $35 through Aug. 31.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — More than 4,000 runners, walkers and volunteers are expected to take part in one of Lynchburg's largest Thanksgiving traditions when the 38th annual HumanKind Lynchburg Turkey Trot 5K returns Thanksgiving morning.
The race, presented by Scott Insurance, will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, with the start and finish at E.C. Glass High School, 2111 Memorial Avenue.
Proceeds from the fundraising event support HumanKind's programs and services in the Lynchburg community.
Participants can run or walk the 5K individually or as part of a group. A virtual option is also available for those unable to participate Thanksgiving morning, allowing participants to complete their run or walk anywhere between Nov. 21 and Nov. 29.
Registration Now Open
Early registration is $35 through Aug. 31. The entry fee increases as race day approaches:
- Sept. 1-Oct. 11: $40
- Oct. 12-Nov. 8: $45
- Nov. 9-Nov. 25: $55
Discounts are available for friends and families registering together. Groups of four or five receive $4 off each registration, while groups of six to 10 receive $6 off each registration.

Current Lynchburg Road Runners Club members can receive a $5 discount when registering between Sept. 1 and Oct. 11.
Thanksgiving Morning at E.C. Glass
The front lawn of E.C. Glass facing Langhorne Road will serve as the center of race-day activities, including the start and finish, food and music. Participants will also have an opportunity to take photos with Turkey Trot Tom and Scottie Dog.
Race packets can be picked up at the HumanKind campus, 1903 HumanKind Way, from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, or Wednesday, Nov. 25. Participants should enter the campus from VES Road.
For an additional fee, participants can choose to have their race packets mailed.
The Lynchburg Turkey Trot has grown into a major community event, drawing thousands of participants and volunteers while raising money to support HumanKind's work throughout the region.
