Kathryn Ha, Megan Meng and Sarah Lydic share the lead at 5-under, while 11 players finish the opening round at even par or better.
Kathryn Ha, Megan Meng, and Sarah Lydic each fired five-under-par 67s Sunday to share the first-round lead in the Open Division of the Donna Andrews Invitational at Boonsboro Country Club.
The trio separated themselves from a field that includes many of the nation's top collegiate and amateur golfers, but with two rounds remaining, the championship remains very much up for grabs.
Ha, the Vanderbilt standout and former Virginia Girls Golfer of the Year, continued her stellar 2025 season by positioning herself atop the leaderboard. Joining her is Northwestern's Megan Meng, a two-time Rolex Junior All-American who helped the Wildcats advance to this year's NCAA Championships.
Lydic, one of the players identified as a strong tournament favorite, continued her recent run of success after winning the BMW GAP Championship earlier this year. The Wake Forest golfer finished 11th at last year's Donna and appears determined to improve on that result.
Sitting alone in fourth place is UNC Greensboro's Kasey McIlvaine after a three-under-par 69.
Grace Petzold, rounds out the top five after posting a two-under 70. Petzold finished 14th in last year's Donna Andrews Invitational and appears comfortable once again on the Boonsboro layout.

A large group sits at even par 72, including several notable contenders. Oklahoma's Ellison Lundquist, Virginia's Elsie MacCleery, College of Charleston standout CAA Player of the Year Molly Hardwick, and Quinnipiac's Samantha Galantini are all positioned within striking distance entering Monday's second round.

Several other players featured in the tournament preview remain firmly in contention despite opening rounds in the mid-70s. Frances Brown of Auburn sits at two-over 74, while former Donna champion Jackie Rogowicz and University of Delaware golfer Anushka Sawant are among a group tied at three-over 75.
Mary Grace Dunigan, Carlee Rogers, Claire Green, and reigning Conference USA champion Reagan Ramage all opened with four-over 76s and remain within reach if they can post a low round Monday.
Some highly touted players struggled to find momentum. Rachel Joyce opened with an 82, while Bella Bugg, Morgan Mussatt, Joelle Johnson, and Kennedy MacCleery all carded rounds of 78. Ella June Hannant finished at 80 after entering the tournament as one of the more decorated junior players in the field.
Still, Boonsboro has historically produced leaderboard movement over its final two rounds, and many accomplished players remain within striking distance of the leaders.

Vaughn Fires 69 to Lead Senior Division After Opening Round at The Donna
Shirley Vaughn turned in the round of the day Friday, carding a three-under-par 69 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round of the Senior Division at the Donna Andrews Invitational at Boonsboro Country Club.
Vaughn, one of the players highlighted in this week's tournament preview, was one of only two competitors breaking par. Vaughn's round of four birdies and one bogey give her an early advantage heading into Monday's second round, while several accomplished players remain within striking distance.
Kimbra Benson sits alone in second place after posting a one-under 71, while Susan West rounded out the only players at even par or better with an even-par 72. Benson five birdies offset two bogies and a double at the par 4 14th.
Just one shot behind West is Linda Jeffery at one-over 73. The Alabama resident and former U.S. Senior Women's Amateur semifinalist continued the strong play that made her one of the featured players to watch entering the week.
Two former Donna champions are also firmly in contention.
2023 Senior Division champion Kathy Hartwiger opened with a two-over 74 and sits in fifth place. Hartwiger entered the tournament following a remarkable 2025 season that included victories in the R&A Senior Women's Amateur Championship, Women's Eastern Senior Championship, and Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur.

2024 champion Suzi Spotleson remains well within reach after an opening-round 75. The former Ohio standout, who is always in contention here, trails Vaughn by six shots with two rounds remaining.

A trio of accomplished competitors share seventh place at four-over 76, including Judy Penman and 2025 Virginia Senior Women's Golfer of the Year Kristin Shifflett. Penman and Shifflett both entered the week among the players expected to challenge for the title.
Anna Schultz and Linda DiVall are tied for 10th after rounds of 78, while Joan Gardner, Shelley Savage, and Ronda Henderson share 12th place at eight-over 80.
Several players featured in the tournament preview will need a strong second round to climb back into contention. Robin Gallagher, winner of the 2025 Carolinas Women's Super Senior Amateur Championship, opened with an 82. Five-time VSGA Senior Women's Amateur champion Mimi Hoffman carded an 85, while three-time VSGA Super Senior Women's Golfer of the Year Shawn McCullough struggled to an opening-round 86.
With two rounds remaining, however, experience suggests the leaderboard could still see significant movement. Many of the tournament's most accomplished players remain within striking distance, and Boonsboro Country Club has a reputation for rewarding patience and consistency over 54 holes.

Saturday's Post Round: More Than a Golf Tournament
As outstanding as The Donna Andrews Invitational has become on the golf course, its impact extends far beyond the fairways. The tournament has also become a passionate supporter of the fight against childhood cancer through the Fighting Kids Cancer Campaign.
What is the Fighting Kids Cancer Campaign?
The Fighting Kids Cancer Campaign was launched by the Life Ring Foundation to bring critical resources and enhanced care to children battling cancer and blood disorders throughout Southwest Virginia.

What makes the effort especially meaningful is that 100 percent of every dollar raised remains local, helping provide desperately needed resources for children and families facing some of life's toughest challenges.
The campaign's mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that children in Southwest Virginia can receive the highest level of care close to home, rather than having to travel long distances to major medical centers. By supporting specialized equipment, treatment resources, family assistance, and expanded pediatric cancer services, the initiative aims to change the narrative for families throughout the region.
For players, sponsors, and spectators, The Donna Andrews Invitational offers more than an opportunity to celebrate great golf. It also provides a chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families fighting pediatric cancer.
"The goal is to ensure that kids in Southwest Virginia have access to the best possible care close to home, while providing hope and support to families during the fight of their lives."
