Central Virginia Community College has partnered with the Lynchburg Fire Department to register Automated External Defibrillator (AED) locations across its campus with the nationwide PulsePoint AED platform, expanding access to lifesaving equipment during medical emergencies.

As part of the initiative, members of the Lynchburg Fire Department visited CVCC to identify and document AED locations throughout campus buildings. Those devices have now been added to PulsePoint’s National Emergency AED Registry, a database that helps emergency responders, 911 dispatchers and community members quickly locate nearby AEDs when responding to sudden cardiac arrest incidents.

AEDs are portable medical devices designed to restore a normal heart rhythm during cardiac emergencies, where rapid intervention can significantly improve survival rates.

“In an emergency, having quick access to an AED can make a critical difference,” said Jeff Sydenstricker, CVCC’s Chief of Police and Director of Campus Safety. “By adding AED locations across campus to the PulsePoint registry, we’re helping make those devices easier to locate and improving emergency preparedness for our students, employees and visitors. We appreciate the Lynchburg Fire Department for assisting with this important initiative.”

College officials said the effort is part of CVCC’s ongoing commitment to campus safety and community partnership. In addition to supporting students, faculty and staff, the registry helps make AED locations more accessible to visitors and the broader community.

The free PulsePoint AED app is available for Apple and Android devices and allows users to locate registered AEDs in their area. Additional information is available at PulsePoint.org.
