The Central Virginia Health District released its latest inspection report covering food establishment visits conducted April 7–13, 2026.

Inspection activity remained steady this week, with a mix of routine, follow-up, and pre-opening inspections across the region.

Routine inspections again showed strong overall performance, with the majority of establishments recording 0–4 violations, continuing a consistent trend seen in recent weeks.

At The Neighbors Place, inspectors cited issues that included chemicals stored above produce, uncovered foods in freezers, damaged cooler components, expired sanitizer test strips, a dirty dishwasher, and food spillage in the walk-in freezer. A follow-up was scheduled on or about April 14.

At Applebee’s on Candler’s Mountain Road, inspectors noted live gnat-like insects near standing water in the dish area, food-prep contamination concerns, damaged microwaves, missing caulking, dirty non-food-contact surfaces, and repeat physical facility issues involving broken tiles, worn grout, and residue buildup. The report specifically identified some of those facility-cleanliness items as repeat violations.

Highest Violation Total This Week

New Doc’s Kitchen had the highest routine violation total this week with eight. Inspectors cited missing employee health policy documentation, lack of written vomit-and-diarrheal cleanup procedures on the truck, raw eggs stored above drink items, improper cold holding for sliced tomatoes, missing date labels, unlabeled squeeze bottles, a hole in the service window screen, and a stained, scored cutting board. Several items were corrected on site, while others were given follow-up deadlines.
