Friendly rivalry at City Stadium raises funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Special Olympics.
Bragging rights returned to the Lynchburg Police Department on Sunday as the officers defeated the Lynchburg Fire Department 15-5 in the annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game at City Stadium.

The friendly rivalry followed a game by the Hill City Howlers and brought together first responders, families, and community supporters for an afternoon of fundraising and fun. Proceeds from the event benefited the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Special Olympics.

While the final score favored the police department, the fire department wasn't ready to concede complete defeat.
"Well, we can't win all of them, so congrats to our comrades in blue on their 15-5 victory today ... only because they refused to count all the runs our LFD kids scored running the bases after the game," the Lynchburg Fire Department joked in a social media post following the contest.

The department also thanked those who attended and supported the charitable cause, along with the Hill City Howlers for hosting the event.
The annual Guns & Hoses game has become a popular community tradition, offering residents a chance to see Lynchburg's police officers and firefighters trade uniforms for softball jerseys while supporting two organizations that serve individuals and families throughout the region.
In the end, both teams scored a victory where it mattered most—raising money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Special Olympics while strengthening community connections.
