Lynchburg Registrar Reminds Voters About Aug. 4 Dual Primary Election

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The City of Lynchburg Office of the General Registrar is reminding voters that Virginia's Aug. 4 primary election is a Dual Primary, meaning voters must choose either the Democratic or Republican primary ballot. Under Virginia law, voters may participate in only one party's primary.

The ballots for the August 4 Primary Election will include:

• Democratic Primary
  • U.S. House of Representatives – 5th Congressional District
• Republican Primary
  • United States Senate
  • U.S. House of Representatives – 5th Congressional District

Voters will be asked which party's ballot they wish to receive when voting early, by mail or at their polling place on Election Day. Once a ballot has been issued, voters cannot switch to the other party's primary.

Election officials also emphasize that Virginia does not register voters by political party. Selecting either a Democratic or Republican primary ballot does not affiliate a voter with that party or change their voter registration status.

Election Day is Tuesday, Aug. 4. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and any voter in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Early voting continues through Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Office of the General Registrar, 825 Kemper St.
