🔴 Highest Violation Total This Week
Mitchell's — Huddleston
Inspection Date: May 21
Purpose: Routine
Violations: 5
Mitchell's recorded the highest routine inspection total of the week after inspectors cited several food-safety and sanitation concerns.
Among the issues noted were deficiencies related to employee health policy documentation and procedures for responding to vomiting and diarrheal incidents. Inspectors also cited improper handwashing practices after an employee handled raw beef and then touched ready-to-eat french fries, creating a cross-contamination risk.
Additional concerns involved food storage and temperature control. Raw seafood was stored above produce in a walk-in cooler, creating the potential for contamination. Inspectors also found pasta sauce that had been improperly cooled and remained at 64 degrees after 16 hours of refrigeration, as well as sauce in a hot-holding unit measuring only 116 degrees, below the required 135-degree minimum. The food items were corrected or reheated during the inspection.
Inspectors further documented food residue on a can opener, mold-like buildup on an ice machine component, unlabeled chemical containers, the absence of food thermometers, uncovered food items in a freezer, improperly stored wiping cloths, and an ice scoop stored with its handle in contact with ice. Corrective actions were taken on-site or discussed with management.
Follow-Up and Pre-Opening Activity
The district also conducted numerous follow-up inspections during the week, including visits to Burger King, Get Thai Express, TBR Bistro, Burley's Market, Dish, Batter Bar, Taste of Italy, Express Lane #4, Milano's, and The Bagel & I.
Pre-opening inspections were completed for:
- Taco 'N Madres 2
- Blue Ridge BBQ
Additional regulatory inspections categorized as "Other" were conducted at TrailHead, R & R Drug Store, Home Cookin' Carry Out, Panda Express, Oasis Caribbean, and 7 Brew Coffee.
Weekly Takeaway
This week's inspections continued a trend seen throughout much of 2026: most establishments across Greater Lynchburg recorded relatively few violations, with only one routine inspection exceeding four violations.
The most common concerns remained employee procedures, food storage practices, sanitation, and temperature control. Many of the cited issues were corrected during the inspections themselves, while follow-up actions and staff training were discussed with management.
Overall, the region continues to post strong inspection results, albeit with only two perfect inspections and the majority of establishments falling into the low-violation category.
