Sometimes the best restaurant outings are the ones you never planned.
After some shopping at Mission Thrift, my mom, sister, daughter, and I realized we were hungry. Fortunately, Bentley’s on Bedford was right across Bedford Avenue, making it an easy choice. We have had consistently good experiences there, both with the food and the service, so we didn’t hesitate to walk in.

My sister ordered the half-smoked turkey breast melt, served on a toasted baguette with bacon, barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, red onion, and mayonnaise. We all opted to leave off the lettuce. She paired it with fries.

My mom went with the lunch special, choosing the scoop of chicken salad and fries, also without lettuce.

She asked for a side of baguette, which arrived warm and soft — a small addition that made her especially happy.

I went with the full smoked turkey breast melt and fries. The smoked turkey melted cheddar and barbecue sauce worked especially well together, with each bite bringing that combination of smoky, savory and slightly sweet flavors. The cheese melted beautifully into the turkey and sauce, making this a sandwich I would happily order again.

Bentleys also went out of their way to accommodate my daughter. I ordered mandarin oranges for her, and the chef specially cut them up and prepared them for her. It was such a thoughtful gesture and one of those little touches that makes a family lunch feel genuinely welcoming.
And that was really the theme of the entire meal: hospitality.

Our server was exceptionally friendly and attentive, checking on us throughout the meal and even turning on a fan when we started getting hot. The staff was accommodating without ever making us feel like we were asking too much.
As a mom, I was also slightly nervous about bringing my daughter into the restaurant. I worried she might make a mess or get a little too loud. But the staff quickly put those concerns to rest and assured us not to worry about it at all.
The portions were generous enough that all three of us had plenty left over for takeaway boxes, which is always a welcome bonus.

What could have been nothing more than a spontaneous stop for lunch after thrift shopping turned into another reminder of why Bentley’s has become a reliable favorite for us. The food was satisfying, the portions were generous, and most importantly, we felt welcomed — even with a little one in tow.
