Since July, the Bedford County community has generously donated almost 2,000 pounds of supplies to the Bedford County Animal Shelter.
This initiative began when Bedford County Waste Management announced a new program to collect donations of pet food, treats, and kitty litter at gated waste collection centers. The shelter, which is often at capacity, quickly depletes its supply of pet essentials.
Thanks to the community's support, the shelter's storeroom shelves are now well-stocked. However, with the shelter housing many pets, employees go through about 12 bags of food per week. Continued donations are vital to keep the animals well-fed and happy.
As a reminder, the following items can be dropped off at your local waste collection center during regular business hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.):
- Dog or cat food (Purina is preferred by shelter staff, if possible)
- Dog or cat treats
- Kitty litter (non-clumping)
The shelter has stated that your contributions are greatly appreciated and go a long way in supporting the shelter's efforts.
