The Central Virginia Health District conducted 26 routine food inspections across Greater Lynchburg during the July 7β13 reporting period. Inspectors also completed seven follow-up inspections, one Risk Factor inspection and three other inspections during the week.
Among routine inspections, MJ's Grill & Bar in Bedford recorded the week's highest violation total with 10 violations, followed by V & T Cafe and Grill in Forest (9), Cilantro Mexican Grill in Moneta (8) and Big Horn Market in Lynchburg (7). Despite several restaurants receiving higher violation totals than the previous week, nine establishments completed routine inspections without a single violation, including three Vito's Pizza operations.

Highest Routine Inspection Violation Totals
MJ's Grill & Bar β Bedford (10 violations)
MJ's Grill & Bar recorded the week's highest violation total during a routine inspection.
Inspectors cited violations involving employee handwashing, spoiled turkey, raw chicken stored above ready-to-eat foods, expired sauces, missing consumer advisory language, improperly labeled chemical containers, an open rear door that could allow pest entry, sanitizer issues and improperly stacked wet equipment.
Several violations were corrected during the inspection, including discarding spoiled food and correcting storage issues. Remaining sanitation and maintenance items are expected to be addressed by management.
V & T Cafe and Grill β Forest (9 violations)
V & T Cafe and Grill received nine violations during its routine inspection.
Inspectors cited moldy pasta sauce, swai marketed as catfish, mildew inside the ice machine, sanitizer concentrations of 0 ppm in both the dish machine and sanitizer buckets, improperly date-marked foods, cardboard used as shelf liners and wiping cloth storage issues.
Several violations were corrected during the inspection, including discarding the moldy sauce, restoring sanitizer concentrations and removing the cardboard liners.
Cilantro Mexican Grill β Moneta (8 violations)
Cilantro Mexican Grill received eight violations during a routine inspection.
Inspectors observed an employee handling raw chicken without washing hands, a dish machine dispensing no detectable sanitizer, multiple cold-held foods above safe temperatures, improper thawing procedures, unlabeled sanitizer bottles and a non-functioning hand sink.
Several violations were corrected during the inspection, while repairs to the hand sink and sanitizer system will require follow-up verification.
