Bedford County’s first outdoor pickleball courts will open to the public later this month.
The courts are located at the Bedford Avenue property managed by Bedford County Parks & Recreation, where tennis courts once stood. New basketball courts are also being added to the site.
We’ll share the opening date as construction is completed.
Bedford County recently launched a new i-GIS platform, and the old Parcelviewer platform will be retired this month.
The new Public GIS Viewer has a range of improvements, including a mobile-friendly design and side-by-side parcel details while you browse.
If you have the old Parcelviewer bookmarked, that link will no longer be active effective August 8.

The first day of school for Bedford County Public Schools students is Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Local drivers are reminded to heed school zone speed limits in the mornings and afternoons. School zones are typically 25 miles per hour unless otherwise posted.
Drivers will also want to be on the lookout for students waiting at bus stops in the morning.
The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a National Night Out event in Forest this year.
The community is invited to Runk & Pratt (1208 Perrowville Rd., Forest) on Tuesday, Aug. 5, for an evening of fun.
From 5-8 p.m., enjoy food, drinks, music, and get to know your local law enforcement officers and neighbors.
After a hiatus in July, First Fridays at Falling Creek Park returns on Aug. 1 with music by Tory Bailey and Tradition.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket. The music starts at 6 p.m.
A Heavenly Sandwich will be on site, and there will be inflatables for the kids.
Applications for cooling assistance will be accepted through Aug. 15.
There are eligibility requirements that prioritize seniors, children, and individuals with disabilities.
