New Online Tool Gives Residents a Real-Time Look at Blighted Properties Being Restored Across the City

The City of Lynchburg has launched a new online dashboard that allows residents to monitor the progress of homes being rehabilitated through the city's Derelict Housing Program.

Developed by the Community Development Department, the Derelict Housing Dashboard provides public access to information on properties undergoing rehabilitation, closed cases, noncompliant properties, and related billing information. City officials say the tool is designed to increase transparency while highlighting ongoing efforts to revitalize neighborhoods.

The Derelict Housing Program focuses on transforming abandoned, unsafe, or deteriorated properties into safe, livable housing. City leaders say the initiative not only improves neighborhood appearance but also helps expand housing opportunities and strengthen long-term community investment.

"Our goal is economic uplift by making housing available and our neighborhoods more livable," said Tom Martin, the city's director of community development.

The new dashboard allows residents to view the status of rehabilitation projects throughout Lynchburg, track enforcement activity, and see how the city is addressing neglected properties.

City officials say providing easy public access to this information offers residents a clearer understanding of the progress being made to reduce blight and return vacant homes to productive use.

The Derelict Housing Dashboard became available June 24 and can be accessed through the City of Lynchburg's website.
