Central Virginia Commuter Services initiative offers free helmet decals and rewards riders who support participating local businesses.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Cyclists in Lynchburg can now earn discounts at participating local businesses through a new community initiative launched by Central Virginia Commuter Services.
The "Businesses for Bikes" program began June 15 and will run through Oct. 1. Organizers say the effort is designed to encourage more residents to bike around the city while supporting local businesses.
Participants receive a free reflective helmet decal that serves as their pass to discounts offered by participating merchants. A growing list of participating businesses is available through an interactive map on the program's website.
The program aims to promote alternative transportation, improve bicycle visibility and safety, and strengthen connections between cyclists and local merchants throughout the Lynchburg area.
Free decals are available at participating businesses, the Lynchburg Community Market on Saturdays during June, and the offices of the Central Virginia Planning District Commission at 828 Main St., 12th Floor. Decals can also be requested by mail.
Organizers say the program offers residents an opportunity to explore the city by bicycle while discovering local businesses and supporting the community's economy.
Businesses interested in joining the program, or cyclists seeking additional information, can visit CVCommuter's website or contact Program Manager Ada Hunsberger at info@cvcommuter.org.
