Sometimes the best meals are not about trying somewhere new—they are about returning to a place you know you can count on.
That's exactly what my family did when we gathered at the Depot Grille to celebrate my mom's birthday. It had been quite a while since our last visit, making the evening feel like a treat. My husband and I don't eat out very often these days, so enjoying a relaxed dinner with family was a welcome change of pace.

On a sweltering July evening with temperatures topping 100 degrees, the restaurant was buzzing with activity. Most of our table cooled off with an ice-cold beer while I was happily stuck with water. Despite the crowd, our server never missed a beat.
The service was easily one of the highlights of the night. Our waitress was genuinely warm, attentive, and incredibly kind throughout the meal. Drinks stayed filled, empty plates disappeared quickly and she anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask. Great service can elevate an already satisfying meal, and she certainly did.
The Depot Grille also continues to shine as a family-friendly destination. There were plenty of families dining with young children, creating a relaxed atmosphere where no one minded our curious 10-month-old taking in all the sights and sounds around her. It made for a comfortable, stress-free birthday celebration.
As always, the portions lived up to the Depot's reputation.

My mom ordered her longtime favorite, Parmesan Encrusted Chicken ($22), topped with basil cream sauce. It's a dish she's enjoyed before, and it didn't disappoint. The chicken was generously portioned and rich without feeling overly heavy.

My dad and sister decided to split the Half Rack and Chicken Tender Combo ($25), and even sharing it between two people, they still had leftovers to take home. The Depot's chicken tenders continue to be one of the restaurant's standout menu items—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and impressively large. They're the kind of meal that's difficult to pass up if you're a regular.

I'm guilty of ordering the same thing nearly every visit, and this time was no exception. The DPO Chicken Tender Lite Bite ($17.50) includes four fried chicken tenders with your choice of sauce. I stayed loyal to the traditional tenders, pairing them with French fries, ranch and honey mustard. Sometimes there's simply no reason to reinvent your order when it's consistently satisfying.

My husband chose Buffalo Chicken Wrap ($15), filled with fried buffalo chicken, bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato, with blue cheese served on the side. He paired it with sweet potato fries, which were crispy and flavorful. While they may not rival the sweet potato fries at Water Dog, they were still a solid side—and our 10-month-old was more than happy to help finish a few.

By the end of dinner, every member of our party except me needed a to-go box. Considering the generous portions throughout the meal, it's easy to see why so many diners leave with lunch for the next day.
For a family birthday celebration in the middle of July, Depot Grille checked every box: welcoming service, hearty portions, reliable comfort food and an atmosphere where everyone—from grandparents to babies—felt at home.
In a dining scene that constantly changes, there is something reassuring about a restaurant that consistently delivers. Depot Grille continues to be one of those dependable places where you know you will leave full, well cared for and already thinking about what you'll order the next time.
