Breakfast out always feels like a bit of a luxury, especially when it's shared with family. This week, I joined my mom and dad for a weekday morning meal at First Watch, where fresh ingredients, generous portions and thoughtful touches made for an enjoyable start to the day.

One of the biggest surprises? There wasn't one. We walked right in without a wait, which is a welcome change from many popular breakfast spots.
Dad ordered the Tri-Fecta, featuring two eggs, bacon, and a Belgian waffle. He opted for his eggs to be lightly fried and could not stop talking about how good everything was. The bacon was cooked exactly right, and the waffle was light and fluffy.

He also gave high marks to the coffee, which is served in a personal carafe left on the table so guests can refill their own cups whenever they like. The flavored creamers were another nice touch that elevated an otherwise simple cup of coffee.

Mom chose the French toast topped with a mixed berry compote. The slices were thick and satisfying without being overly dense or dry. The warm berry topping added just enough sweetness without overwhelming the dish, while the whipped butter melted perfectly into each bite, she said.

She paired it with a mocha iced coffee, which was rich, smooth and one of the better specialty coffees she has had at a breakfast chain. Even the regular hot coffee impressed her more than expected.

I ordered the pancakes — one chocolate chip and one plain — and they were enormous. I ended up taking half of them home, always a good sign when it comes to value. The warm syrup arrived in a glass server rather than plastic packets, adding a small but appreciated touch of hospitality.

We also shared an extra side of bacon. It was tasty, though I had requested it extra crispy, and it arrived with a little more chew than crunch. It was our only minor disappointment during the meal.
Service was friendly throughout our visit. Our waitress remained attentive despite wearing a walking boot, making sure our coffee stayed full and checking in regularly without hovering.
First Watch also offers a rotating seasonal menu, giving regular customers something new to look forward to. Although we stuck with traditional breakfast favorites this time, there were several summer specials that caught our attention for a future visit.

Our meal for three came to about $60 before tip. While it costs a little more than a typical diner breakfast, the quality of the ingredients, generous portions and polished presentation help justify the price. It's not an every-week destination for most families, but it's an excellent choice for a leisurely breakfast or brunch when you want something that feels a little more special.

By the time we left, we were already talking about what we would order next time. For mom, it will likely be the warm pecan chicken salad, a longtime favorite. And judging by Dad's enthusiasm for the Tri-Fecta, I have a feeling he'll be ordering the same breakfast all over again.
